Conte-nos de onde você é?

Sou de Florianópolis é uma ilha, mais conhecida como ilha da Magia.

Tell us where are you from?

I'm from Florianópolis, it’s an island, better known as Magic Island.

Há quanto tempo você pratica bodysurf e o que há de especial nisso?

Estou praticando bodysurf há 4 anos, tudo começou com um colega de trabalho @gonzagamateus_ que também é lifeguard ele me ensinou a praticar e eu me apaixonei, hoje não consigo ficar um dia sem surfar. E acredito que a parte especial é a conexão que o esporte traz com a Natureza e principalmente o aprendizado que o oceano me dá.

Já sou surfista a mais de 20 anos e sempre gostei de estar no mar.

Mas o Bodysurf me leva pra uma outra atmosfera é como se meus sentidos, visão, audição, olfato e tato se tornaram mais presente no meu dia a dia.

How long have you been bodysurfing and what do you find special about it?

I've been bodysurfing for 4 years, it all started with a co-worker @gonzagamateus_ who is also a lifeguard, he taught me how to practice it and I fell in love, today I can't go a day without surfing. I believe that the special part is the connection that the sport brings with nature and especially the learning that the ocean gives me.

I've been a surfer for over 20 years and I've always enjoyed being at sea, but bodysurfing takes me to another atmosphere and it's as if my senses, sight, hearing, smell and touch have become more present in my daily life.

contar sobre isso?

Tudo começou entre amigos e colegas de trabalho, A rotina de um Lifeguard na praia é treinar , sinalizar a praia com bandeiras , resgates e rondas enfim..

Acredito que muitos profissionais em toda parte do mundo se identificam com isso.

E parte da nossa rotina também é estar na água (pegando um " Jaca ") bodysurf popularmente conhecido no Brasil.

You have a great bodysurfing community, can you tell us about it?

It all started between friends and co-workers, the routine of a lifeguard on the beach is to train, signal the beach with flags, carry out rescues and rounds anyway.. I believe that many professionals around the world identify with this. Part of our routine is also being in the water (catching a "Jaca") bodysurfing popularly known in Brazil.

Existe uma progressão de habilidades de bodysurfing e em que área isso está acontecendo?

Aqui no Brasil os praticantes são na maioria lifeguard pois é um excelente treinamento para a profissão já que trabalhar exclusivamente com o nosso corpo e mente. Nada melhor do que estar na água entendendo as mudanças do mar e treinando o corpo para quando precisar fazer algum resgate estarmos muito bem preparados.

Is there a progression in bodysurfing skills and in what area is this happening?

Here in Brazil the practitioners are mostly lifeguards as it is excellent training for the profession as it works exclusively with our body and mind. There's nothing better than being in the water, understanding the changes in the sea and training the body so that when we need to do a rescue, we are very well prepared.

Você faz belos Handplanes, como você desenvolveu os diferentes modelos?

No começo eu tinha dificuldade em usar handplanes pois alguns modelos não ajudam muito o desempenho na água e as vezes causam lesões, então resolvi fábricar as minhas próprias. E ai fui presenteando alguns amigos para compartilhar essa experiência. Decidi fabricar meus próprios handplanes pois não achei nenhum à venda em nenhuma loja. No Brasil o esporte é muito recente, então comecei a pesquisar toda a cultura Bodysurf Nesse meus estudos vi muitas handplane uma mais linda que a outra. Depois de muito teste cheguei nesses modelos que são muito funcionais, sustentável e com uma vida útil muito grande.

You make beautiful handplanes, how did you develop the different models?

At first I had difficulty using handplanes because some models don't help the performance in the water and sometimes cause injuries, so I decided to make my own. Then I gave some to my friends to share the experience. I decided to make my own handplanes because I couldn't find any for sale in any store. In Brazil the sport is very recent, so I started researching the entire Bodysurf culture. In my studies I saw many handplanes, one more beautiful than the other. After a lot of testing I arrived at these models that are very functional, sustainable and have a very long lifespan.

Você sempre usa um Handplane?

Não, eu gosto de surfar sem também é muito Legal.

Do you always use a handplane?

No, I like to surf without it's also very cool.

Vimos fotos de bodysurfers pegando lajes pesadas no Brasil, tem alguma na sua região?

Aqui na ilha tem a praia de Naufragados, é a onda mais temida entre os surfistas trata-se de uma ponta de laje que quando encaixa o swell quebra uma onda Alucinante com umas Direitas tubulares lá eu acredito que kalani já esteve por lá.

Depois temos outros costões aqui que encaixam muito bem com ondulações grandes.

We've seen pictures of bodysurfers taking on heavy slabs in Brazil, do you have any in your area?

Here on the island there is the beach of 'Naufragados', it is the most feared wave among surfers it is a tip of a slab and when the swell hits, it breaks as an amazing wave with some tubular rights. I believe kalani has already been there. Then we have other cliffs here that work very well with big swells. I climb from the rocks.

Como é o cenário da competição por lá?

Não temos nenhuma competição de nível nacional aqui. Apenas alguns campeonatos independentes promovido por na verdade uma ação em conjunto envolvendo praticantes do bodysurf, apoio financeiro de empresas da região, comércio local, outros colegas também de profissão, algumas marcas

Mas na maioria das vezes rolam alguns encontros,

surfarmos juntos,

Fazemos um treino e compartilhar momentos inesquecíveis

Antes da Pandemia aconteciam mais agora estamos voltando aos poucos...

How is the competition scene there?

We don't have any national level competition here. Only a few independent championships promoted by actually a joint action involving bodysurf practitioners, financial support from companies in the region, local businesses, other colleagues also by profession, some brands. But most of the time there are some meet ups, we surf together, we do a workout and share unforgettable moments before the pandemic happened but now we are slowly coming back...

Qual foi a melhor sessão que você teve?

Foi em 2019 entrei num mar clássico eu tenho fotos das ondas vou te mostrar, fiz com o celular não foi uma onda muito grande porém foi muito comprida e consegui pegar 3 tubos na mesma onda eu encaixei certinho no funbowl e a onda só me jogava pra frente.

Foi o dia que eu fui testar a primeira Handplane que eu fiz,

What was the best session you've had?

It was in 2019, I entered a classic sea, it was not a very big wave but it was very long and I managed to catch 3 tubes in the same wave I fit right in the funbowl and the wave just threw me to the front. It was the day I went to test the first handplane I made, It was angry.... The water was beautiful smooth sea without wind, ☀️ Sun blue sky 🙌🏽
